Update March 2017: Recently purchased Flesh for Lulu's Plastic Fantastic, 3rd CD/lp & it's wonderful, too! Apparently, they had gotten tagged as a "Goth/post-punk" band & that was not popular at that time; well, perhaps, Goth was in England. If airwaves back then had played fairly, they were really pretty straight-up rock and would've certainly have given U2 and Bono a run for their money, as Nick Marsh is similar singing, but blows Bono away!!! And, if you have a turntable, definitely check out & get their self-titled debut (which isn't available in CD format). It's actually the very best one & covers multiple rock genre's & all equally outstanding! Why do we lose all the best ones? RIP Nick Marsh.

Somehow I discovered Flesh for Lulu's "Long Live The New Flesh" around 20 years after its' original release (have no idea how!) Had it been released anytime from '80-'83 ('84 might be stretching it a bit), it would have been HUGE, but by '87, at least in U.S., music had moved on to other sounds & also by '83 or 4 -'90 INXS had exploded & ruled 80's airplay!! Sometimes, "timing really IS everything". I just played "Long Live The New Flesh" again, last night (LOVE IT STILL!) & think it's much too bad Nick Marsh R.I.P. passed last year, because I think if it were re-released now, it would be a HIT (definitely in Britain & probably most of the rest of the world; can't be so sure about U.S. as it doesn't necessarily follow suit with what's popular elsewhere, with some homegrown exceptions, i.e. Lenny Kravitz & Garbage & some musicians referred to in following sentence: Obviously, other American musicians felt the same about Flesh For Lulu with Paul Westerberg (The Replacements) and Goo Goo Dolls both covering "Postcards From Paradise". I also love "I Go Crazy" & do! for the entire "Long Live The New Flesh" CD" (which, at the time purchased, bought used, but while case has seen better days, disc is still going strong..."knock wood"!!)

i'm really not agree you can call their first record "pop rock". anyway, that's their karma: to be fucked up by definitions: the best interpretation of the rolling/beggars sound in a post punk key was largely misunderstood; for the critics they were just a goth band (that the gothic listeners, obviously, didn't like).
