Dirk Ivens the man behind Dive is a legend in the world of Industrial/EBM music. His discography dates back to the start of the 1980's as the vocal force behind Absolute Body Control. By the mid 80's he would go on to form "The Klinik" with Marc Verhaegan & Eric Von Wonterghem. This project left a legacy in the European scene of Industrial/Ebm music with it's minimalistic but very dark Industrial/EBM grooves combined with Dirk's simple but effective, easy to understand vocals about the darkness of life.
Dirk had separated ways with The Klinik in 1991 but a little over a year before he released his self titled LP under the artist name Dive on Body records. A simplistic but hugely powerful outing. Centered mostly around the percussive sounds of the Roland TR 808 drum machine run through a large amount of distortion. The combination of distortion , mixed with delays & reverbs creates an amazing array of harmonics.
This release was the precursor sound to the Rhythmic Noise scene and inspired a future generation of artists on labels such as Ant-Zen and Hands. A sound which consists of heavy distortion & powerful drum rhythms & sounds gained to the maximum level of sound.
Though Dive falls into he EBM genre due to Dirks background with Absolute Body Control & The Klinik , the output of Dive strays away from the typical arppegiated synth lines heard in ABC and The Klinik. In my honest opinion the "First Album" is one of them most important releases in the history of underground electronic music. It is right next to those early Aphex Twin releases which came a few years later hat inspired many generations to come.

Dirk Ivens is the ultimate hero of industrial electronics. His music keeps being innovative and unique, never surrending to trends and fashions. On stage he's a real animal, using his body as a mean of total powerful expression. Perhaps the better expression of Electronic Body Music. Just saw him yesterday night. Fantastic as usual!
