Carlo van Putten is the lead singer and founder of several bands & projects. As there are The Convent, Dead Guitars, White Rose Transmission & In2thesound.
The Convent
came together as a concept in late 1985 and throughout the band's evolution some members have come and gone and all of them have been at one time or another, vital to the band's development. That they were able to continue to grow for over 25 years and generate genuine affection amongst lovers of guitar music in Europe, is a testament to passion and the power of it, the root of all fine art They began with an occasional independent single, which in turn led to the band's first cd Counting the stars ,self financed and distributed for the most part at the numerous concerts the band played across Germany and Holland (the singer's homeland). The band began to gather a strong reputation and came to the attention of strange ways records based in Hamburg. Strangeways agreed to take over the distribution of "Counting the Stars" as well as finance the band's second album "Tales from the frozen Forest". Mark Burgess, former lead singer of the UK indie band The Chameleons, who is also a big fan of the band, was invited to produce the album. He was already partially involved in a production role on their first album. The Convent made 7 studio albums in the past and are still going on. They will play several festivals this year.
White Rose Transmission
Adrian Borland lead singer of the British band The Sound and Carlo met in private, went together on tour, became close friends and decided to work together on Carlo’s project called White Rose Transmission. The debut album came out in 1993. In 1999 they recorded their second one. The Album was called 700 miles of desert. What basically began as the two of them ended up into another collaboration with Mark Burgess. Sadly Adrian took his life in April 1999. What started between Adrian & Carlo stayed to become a project where several guest musicians like; Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls, Marty Willson Piper of the Australian band The Church & Frank Weyzig of Clan of Xymox became part of the WRT family.
Dead Guitars
After living for more than 25 years in Germany, Carlo moved back to the Netherlands. Carlo and Peter Brough from a band called 12 Drummers Drumming got together after meeting via friends at a Depeche mode concert and started to record several demo’s and became soon a wholesome band after Ralf Aussem, Hermann Eugster and Kurt Schmidt joined in. They were also members of Twelve Drummers Drumming and Sun. They made 4 albums together and went on a European tour with The Mission. In 2008. At the moment they have a creative break because Carlo is working with the drummer of The Sound & his The Convent band members on a project called In2thesound .
In2thesound
Is a project with the original The Sound drummer Mike Dudley. Carlo & Mike met on the Amsterdam film festival where a documentary been shown about the live of Adrian Borland. The Convent & Mike played several concerts this year in Portugal, Germany & the Netherlands paying a tribute to The Sound by playing a full The Sound set.
White Rose Transmission
Meanwhile Carlo is working on a new WRT album together with 2 former band members of the Dutch band Aestrid. Robert Smeekes and Thomas Marcin are currently working on the 5th studio album of this project.
They will start recording after their “ live in the living room – an acoustic angel” tour. Every year Carlo takes some of his friends on board to play live in the living rooms of fans & friends. He does that for already more than 7 years.Less
