SPACEMEN 3 - DISCOGRAPHY (83 VIDEOS)
Spacemen 3
Profile:
Formed in 1982 in the town of Rugby by Pete Kember (Sonic Boom (2)) and Jason Pierce(J. Spaceman), Spacemen 3 were to become one of the most important bands of the eighties, with their offshoots destined to spread out and become equally as vital in the nineties. Spacemen 3 and Jesus And Mary Chain were the godfathers of the shoegazer and drone-rock scene which blossomed in the U.K. at the close of the '80s. But while both bands showed an obvious affinity for the pioneering sounds of The Velvet Underground, they otherwise found different sources of inspiration, with S3 masterminds Sonic Boom (Pete Kember) and J Spaceman (Jason Pierce) eschewing the The Beach Boysinfluenced pop symphonics favored by the J&MC's Reid Brothers and instead channeling noisy minimalists ranging from Sonic Youth to Red Krayola to Suicide.Less

Wonderful wonderful band. They pinched bits of songs, like early sampling, simplified songs that already existed and created masterpieces in perfect prescription and playing with fire. Out of all the bands not yet to reform these reforming (not likely) would get me the most excited. Been with me since the age of 15 (1988) and I loved Spiritualized and Spectrum but nothing comes close to Spacemen 3. I can’t describe why, they just have the magic. Along with a The Jesus and Mary chain, New Order and Detroit legends underground resistance and a Drexciya they have enhanced my life immensely. Thank you Pete and Jason

I own a copy of playing with fire that is a 1st cut (3rd released) done by porky prime cut the cover is not the embossed one but an unglued normal cover that has been signed by sonic boom on his picture on the reverse side of the cover. Could anyone give me any more information about this release please, I've never seen another one or another listed anywhere. Any info would be much appreciated and if possible a value on this release, there is the slightest chance it was from sonic's own personal collection as the shop in which it was bought was frequented by Mr Kember.

The list above is missing the '89 flexi on the Cheree label, a split with Bark Psychosis and Fury Things. Here's a link to the "Various Artists" listing on Discogs for the flexi: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Cheree-Presents-CHEREE-F5/release/518258

Such a great group, and to all devoted followers, I have to recommend something - pick up Perry Leopold's 'Experiments In Metaphysics' - holy shit if this guy isn't their godfather.................
